Аnnotation: A critical remark is given on the article “On the applicability of the geometrical optics approximation when considering wave processes in geophysics” published earlier in the journal “Geophysical Research” [Fedorov, Pilipenko, 2023], in which the authors claim that the range of applicability of the geometrical optics approximation is greater than it is “often assumed.” It is shown that in fact the authors are discussing a slightly different issue, since the smallness of the wavelength compared to the characteristic scale of the inhomogeneity, in principle, cannot be used as a limit of applicability of the method under discussion.
