Аnnotation: The authors recently published the article in the journal “Geophysical Research” in which, in their expression they “tried to test the idea of magnetic storm and the telluric fields and currents induced by it as an earthquake trigger” [ Kozyreva, Pilipenko , 2020, p. 33]. Since, on the one hand, the authors were unable to experimentally confirm the idea, and, on the other, it is widely discussed in geophysical literature, the authors consider their publication, among other things, as “an invitation of cosmophysicists and seismologists to a joint discussion” of the problem. The present article is a brief response to this invitation. It is emphasized that, contrary to the assertion of the authors of the discussed article, a strong earthquake as a benchmark for synchronizing magnetometric observations was used by many researchers. The works in which the relation of seismicity with magnetic disturbances and other exogenous factors was found at a statistically significant level are named. An assumption is made about the reason why the authors of the discussed article did not find signs of such a relation.
